Catholic Priest charged with possession of 3,100 images of children

A Roman Catholic Priest has been charged with possessing and making indecent images of children.
Paul Clarke, 71, is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates Court and is facing five charges.
He has been charged with making 3,100 indecent images of children, possessing an indecent image of a child, and possessing prohibited images.

All charges involve photos allegedly taken from the internet, according to a spokesperson for Sussex Police.
"There is no evidence of contact offending and none of the images are of local children," he added.
"The charges, authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service, follow an intelligence led investigation by the Paedophile On-Line Investigation Team of Sussex Police."

Clarke lived in Rye, East Sussex until he left in February and moved to Manchester.
Police searched his home in Rye at the presbytery of St Anthony of Padua church on 13 November last year. They seized computers and other alleged evidence.
